Anna Faris 'Nasty' Humor in 'What’s Your Number?'

Anna Faris has helped write and star in this season’s new comedy “What’s Your Number,” in theaters Friday.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Daily News, the actress describes her humor as “nasty, salty maybe.” Born in Seattle, Faris comes from an unlikely background. She was raised by strict parents; her father was a sociologist while her mother worked in education.

“I was never funny growing up,” Faris said. “Nobody ever thought I was funny. I took myself very seriously. Maybe that was funny in itself,” she reasoned.

She told the L.A. reporter that her role as Ally Darling in “What’s Your Number” was easier for her parents to accept than her pervious appearance in “Scary Movie.”

“’Scary Movie’ was tough for them – at least my mom. She was pretty embarrassed by the movie, but now I think they’ve adjusted to it.”

Faris explained to her parents, “These are my roles and my character, not who I am, so don’t freak out.”

“What’s Your Number” follows a thirty-something aged woman who reflects on the past men she’s had relationships with in her life and searches for her one true love.

Twitter users and critics alike have commented on the film with mixed reviews.

Chris wrote, “What’s Your Number? Is the funniest movie since Bridesmaids- or the funniest movie in the last 6 weeks.”

“Finally a comedy that’s romantic and funny!” Said Twitter user Amos.

In response to Amos, Erik disagreed: “He loved THE BACK UP PLAN too. Go away!”

Matt wrote, “I had nothing to do with the making of WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER and yet I feel compelled to apologize to women everywhere for its existence.”

In a conflicted review, Kate wrote, “WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER? Trashy predictable-but-amusing rom com [romantic comedy].”

“What’s Your Number” was directed by Mark Mylod and also stars actors Chris Evans and Ari Graynor.
