Anna Paquin and Her Gown Dazzle White House Correspondents Dinner
Anna Paquin has been the talk of celebrity mags Sunday after taking the red carpet at Saturday's White House Correspondents Association Dinner.
The X-Men star, whose rep confirmed her pregnancy earlier this month, took to the red carpet for the first time since that announcement was made. The 29-year-old looked delighted to be joining fellow celebrities and journalists attend the event, where President Obama gave a speech and comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted.
The Oscar-winning actress delighted photographers by wearing a black cut-out silk jersey gown by French designer Herve L. Leroux.
Paquin and soon-to-be father of her child, British actor Stephen Moyer, met on the set of their top rated HBO vampire show, True Blood. They met in 2007 and married in August 2010. Moyer is already the father of two children from a previous relationship, fathering sin Billy who is 12, and daughter Lilac who is 10.
Another mother to be was on the red carpet at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner on Saturday night. Fellow actress and Oscar winner, Reese Witherspoon, also attended the event, looking confident wearing a black dress.
The White House Correspondents' Association dinner is traditionally attended by the U.S. president and the first lady, and sees various government officials, press representatives, as well as celebrities come together for the event.
The event is also used to raise money for a scholarships program, as well as to support awards to recognize excellence in journalism.
The dinner tradition began in the 1920s as a modest gathering of politicians and reporters who covered them. Since then, it's developed into a recognized and celebrated event where the U.S. president is expected to make an entertaining speech in front of top journalists and celebrities.
