'Annabelle 2' Release Date, News: Clip Reveal at SXSW Spurs Optimism in the Film

Demonic possession is considered a staple in the horror business, and when one thinks of a possessed doll, more or less the first being that comes to mind is the cursed Annabelle. After having a spinoff movie of her own after gaining popularity from "The Conjuring," she is back with a second film, and it promises to be even better.

During the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference held in Austin Texas, film enthusiasts gathered, and the team behind "Annabelle 2" was there to give quick glimpses of not one, but two clips showing what fans can expect. From the looks of it, fans won't be disappointed.

Both clips have Janice (Talitha Bateman) as the subject of the haunting of the dollmaker's dead daughter. In the first clip, Janice first encounters Annabelle in a room, who showed an eerie movement while she was quarreling with another girl. After being chased by the ghost of the dollmaker's daughter, she tries to flee through a lift chair, but then gets swung to the floor by some evil force.

The second one has her on a wheelchair due to the previous accident and was left out in the sun. Suddenly a mysterious woman takes her to a barn, where she again sees the ghost who crawls toward her and vomits black goo to her mouth.

Bloody Disgusting says the film "focuses on mood and atmosphere," aside from the overly clichéd surprise tactics. The setting is what makes it scary and the acting that makes it all the more believable further ups the ante.

Dread Central shares the sentiment and notes that it may not have revealed a lot to conclude that it will be great, but it was enough to have an optimistic view of the film.

"Annabelle 2" is set to haunt and scare in theaters on Aug. 11, 2017.
