'Annabelle: Creation' Star Lulu Wilson Joins New Netflix Horror Series

The popular 1950s novel "The Haunting of Hill House" is set to get a TV series adaptation on Netflix, and new reports confirm that "Annabelle: Creation" actress Lulu Wilson and budding star Victoria Pedretti are joining its cast.

Based on the classic 1959 novel of the same title by Shirley Jackson, the upcoming TV series will be helmed by "Ouija: Origin of Evil" director Mike Flanagan.

Produced by Amblin TV and Paramount TV, "The Haunting of Hill House" will consist of 10 episodes and will be heavily influenced by the original classic horror story. As previously reported, however, it will attempt to explore further the mythology of the Crane Family.

The series was initially made known in April as part of Netflix's thrust to offer more original materials, particularly movies and shows under the horror genre. This was particularly due to the unexpected success of the network's thriller series "Stranger Things."

Although Jackson's novel was already adapted into a film titled "The Haunting" in 1963, the upcoming Netflix drama will reportedly take inspiration from the book more than the 1960s movie adaptation and its 1999 remake (also titled "The Haunting"). Unlike the film adaptation which treated the Crane Family as more of a backdrop to the paranormal incidents, the Netflix series will highlight them as major characters.

As of this writing, the roles to be played by Wilson and Pedretti are still unknown. Considering their previous projects in the horror genre, however, both actresses are expected to come as great additions to the already strong cast of the series. So far, the actors confirmed in the cast are Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Michiel Huisman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel and Henry Thomas.

Last July, the network confirmed that Gugino would play the female lead in the upcoming series. She is also set to star in Flanagan's "Gerald's Game," which will premiere on Sept. 29.
