Anne Hathaway and 'Catwoman' Spinoff? Actress Applauded for 'Dark Knight Rises' Performance (VIDEO)
Anne Hathaway has received widespread applause for her role as Selina Kyle in "The Dark Knight Rises" and recent statements from the film's director, Christopher Nolan, has led to speculation that the actress could receive her very own spin-off show.
Hathaway plays a cat burglar who has ties to the villain in the epic superhero film and although she is never referred to as Catwoman, she is seen wearing the famous costume in various scenes. Nolan, a British filmmaker, recently spoke about the 29-year-old's talent and precision in portraying her character.
"Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character. She's really built it from the ground up, it's just a delight to watch her perform," Nolan told Access Hollywood. "The thing she does in those heels is not to be taken lightly. She's an incredible character and we're very excited to see her and hopefully we'll leave people wanting more."
Nolan then answered questions about the potential of a Catwoman movie, and while he confirmed that the "Dark Knight Rises" is his final Batman installment he believes that Hathaway "deserves" a spinoff.
"For me, Gotham and these characters, I'm done. I've told our story and I'm moving on [but] I certainly think [Anne] deserves it – she's incredible," Nolan explained.
The highly anticipated action flick opened in theaters throughout the US on July 20 and while Batman fans predominantly praised the film, it was Hathaway who stole the spotlight.
"Anne Hathaway is just perfect as Catwoman," Andrew Octavian tweeted.
"The Dark Knight Rises! I think I'm watching it for Catwoman, not Batman or Joker. Anne Hathaway ftw!" Michelle Ang tweeted.
"Anne Hathaway is so fabulous, I can't believe I didn't think she'd be able to pull off Catwoman!" Darren McMahon tweeted.
"Really didn't expect Anne Hathaway To be such a freaking amazing cat woman," HeavenLeah tweeted.
