'Anne of Green Gables' Will Make a Comeback on TV
It has been over 30 years since fans saw "Anne of Green Gables" on TV, and fans of the beloved novel will get another chance to see the orphan's story back on the small screens soon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the person writing the series reboot will be "Breaking Bad's" Moira Walley-Beckett. She will also be producing the remake, and the website said that the show promises to connect more to its younger viewers.
In a statement released by Walley-Beckett, she said that she is excited to adapt Anne Shirley's stories, and she's thrilled to give the story a new life. "Anne's issues are contemporary issues: feminism, prejudice, bullying and a desire to belong. The stakes are high and her emotional journey is tumultuous," she said. Those who've also read the book are also looking forward to see what the Emmy-Award winner will bring once the series airs.
CBC will be airing the new "Anne of Green Gables" and was reported to have ordered an eight-episode reboot. The story revolves the life of an orphan girl, who suffered from an abusive childhood in the home of strangers and orphanages. According to Variety, Anne then lived with her new adoptive family, an old spinster and her brother, but eventually changed all of their lives with her attitude and spirit.
Walley-Beckett will be joined by other co-producers, Northwood Entertainment's Miranda de Pencier and Monumental Pictures' Alison Owen and Debra Hayward. Owen told Variety that they were asked by de Pencier and Walley-Beckett to join forces in this project. "We virtually jumped for joy," she said. "Like many millions of girls and women, Debra and I grew up loving the books, so being asked to help bring Anne back into people's homes is a dream come true. To be working with such incredible talents as Moira and Miranda is the icing on the cake."
"Anne of Green Gables" will start filming this spring, and will debut in Canada in 2017.
