Annie Lennox Little Bird Performance at Closing Ceremony Hailed as Visually Stunning

Annie Lennox's Little Bird performance at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games was one of the highlights of a spectacular ceremony featuring the some of the best British music acts of recent decades.

Lennox entered the Olympic Stadium in east London in a huge galleon to surprise the 80,000 people who had gathered for the closing ceremony party of the Games.

As she made her way in the impressive vehicle the singer belted out a performance of her single "Little Bird" for fans.

The galleon was a replica of the large multi-decked sailing ships used primarily from the 16th to 18th centuries. It was visually stunning to see for the fans, and Lennox was also dressed in a full period costume from the era to complete the amazing section of the ceremony.

Many artists featured in the opening ceremony have seen a sales boost since the show, led by Elbow's One Day Like This and Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush. Both of those songs have gone into the UK's iTunes top 10. Bush's song accompanied a dance routine and video montage during the ceremony. She hailed it as a "brilliant" show on her website.

The Spice Girls' reunion was also widely praised by critics; they performed for the first time in four years. Also George Michael performed, returning to the stage after his serious bout of pneumonia last year.

Take That's Gary Barlow also appeared with the boy band to perform "Rule the World" just a week after tragically suffering the loss of his baby daughter, who was stillborn.

Monty Python star Eric Idle was also one of the main features of the show, giving a comedic sketch as he performed his famous hit "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life." He had all 80,000 in the stands up and singing along, as millions watched on TV across the globe.
