Anonymous Hacked: Rival Hacker Group 'Rustle League' Hack Twitter (VIDEO)
Anonymous has been hacked by rival group of hackers called the Rustle League.
The hacker collective known as Anonymous has become famous for its attacks on high profile websites. However, the group has suffered an embarrassing breach, after one of its popular Twitter feeds was taken over by a rival group.
The Rustle League has said that it hacked the @Anon_Central account, which had gathered about 160,000 followers at the time.
Graham Cluley, senior consultant at security firm Sophos has told the BBC: "The reason Anonymous fell victim is probably human weakness."
He added, "Chances are that they followed poor password practices, like using the same password in multiple places or choosing a password that was easy to crack. Everyone should learn better password security from incidents like this - if it can happen to an account run by Anonymous supporters, it could happen to you."
Rustle League wrote on the @Anon_Central account: "WE ARE RUSTLE LEAGUE WE ARE ALPHA AS **** EXPECT JIMMIES"
The Rustle League reportedly consists of five main members, and was only formed last Summer. All five members are reportedly in their 20's and work in the online security industry.
Jaime Cochran, co-chair of Rustle League has said on the group's own Twitter account: "We see ourselves as the old Anonymous, which is more about having fun and f****** with people rather than revolution and saving the world. Although, what we do does serve a purpose in society."
Just earlier this week, the Burger King account was also breached, and one message on the BK account claimed that the company had been sold to McDonalds. Also the account of Chrysler-owned Jeep was broken into, and tweets were posted about rival cars.
Another high profile Twitter hacking took place on BBC presenter Jeremy Clarkson's account, where the hackers posted advertisements about weight loss tablets.
