Another 'Daredevil' Spinoff Possible? Ex-Showrunner Wants a Kingpin Miniseries
Will another "Daredevil" spinoff make it to the small screen? Former showrunner Steven DeKnight sees plenty of possibilities with a Kingpin miniseries.
DeKnight expressed an interest in doing a six-episode show about the Daredevil villain in a post on Twitter. He also said he'd still like to work with Vincent D'Onofrio, who brought the character to life on Netflix.
Kingpin, also known as Wilson Fisk, is one of Marvel's most interesting villains. Marvel Television was able to properly develop his characterization on "Daredevil" because of the medium's serialized aspect.

In "Daredevil" season 1, viewers learned of Kingpin's backstory of child abuse and the violent death of his father. Viewers also learned there is a soft and nice side to the villain because of his devotion to his fiancée, Vanessa (Ayalet Zurer).
In the comic series, Vanessa died because of an organization of ninja criminals called The Hand. DeKnight reportedly wants this story explored and adapted based on the comic book source, "Daredevil: Return of the King." It will bring together the Kingpin and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) as allies against The Hand to avenge Vanessa's death.
Fans assumed that "Return of the King" will be the plot for season 3, especially after Netflix confirmed that D'Onofrio will be back. "Daredevil's new showrunner Erik Oleson, however, will reportedly be adopting a different source material, "Daredevil: Born Again."
This leaves DeKnight to freely explore his own ideas for the Kingpin spinoff. The only question now is if Marvel Television will let him do the miniseries.
DeKnight stepped down as the showrunner of "Daredevil" after season 1 because of his movie commitment as director of "Pacific Rim 2: Uprising." Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez took on showrunner duties when DeKnight left.
If plans roll, the story of Kingpin will be the second spinoff after "The Punisher" with Jon Bernthal, whose character appeared in "Daredevil" season 2. His solo series will debut on Netflix on Friday, Nov. 17 at 3:00 a.m. EST.
"Daredevil" season 3 began filming in October with a potential late 2018 release. The previous seasons are still streaming on Netflix.
