Anthony Martin, Escape Artist, Likens 25th Anniversary Stunt to Freedom From Sin
Well known escape artist and evangelist Anthony Martin will be attempting a daring and life threatening escape stunt that he originally tried 25 years ago. This time, he upped the difficulty.
Martin will put on a parachute and then be locked into a freight box by a locksmith with a keyless lock. The combination will then be scrambled by the locksmith and set onto the box.
An aircraft will climb to a height 10 times that of the Empire State building, then shove the cargo box containing Martin, out the open bay door according to a press release.
The 47-year-old will be racing against the clock as the box picks up speed and races toward the ground at at 200 feet per second.
The stunt is to take place on Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. with August 7 as a rain date if the weather does not permit the stunt.
"Martin accomplished the first time ever stunt when he was only 22 years of age in 1988. Now with over 20 years of additional experience and a litany of death defying feats to his credit he feels the time has come to improve upon this- his signature escape," Skydive Chicago said in a press release.
"The escape artist has been lowered under the ice in steel cages, buried alive in Las Vegas and has jumped handcuffed above the Snake River Canyon in Idaho. This will be the 25th anniversary of the harrowing escape and will coincide with the release of Martin's new book 'Escape or Die: An Escape Artist Unlocks the Secret to Cheating Death,'" the release continued.
Martin has appeared on television numerous times, most notably on "Ripley's Believe it or Not," and worked to evangelize and promote his Christian beliefs for the past 15 years.
He launched Ambassador In Chains Ministries in 1998 as a resource for local churches.
Martin's team said, "he uses his escapes as a metaphor for escaping eternal death through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ," according to a press release.
