Antiabortion Rally in Germantown Prays for Doctor, He Says God is on His Side
Antiabortion supporters in Maryland stepped up their efforts Monday with their largest demonstration to date, gathering more than 2,000 people and targeting their protest directly against the city’s abortion clinic.
The rally took the form mostly of prayers that were aimed at Dr. LeRoy Carhart, the Nebraskan physician who runs Germantown Reproductive Health Services, according to The Gazette.
The Maryland Coalition organized the demonstration for Life, which is a pro-life group that wants to raise awareness for the issue, and yesterday marked one-year since the doctor began practicing abortion at the clinic.

One couple at the rally on Monday, Pete and Lori Keifer, were there with their six children, and shared that they will continue praying both for the doctor in hopes that he will have a “change of heart,” and for the mothers choosing to go to the abortion clinic and go through with the procedure.
However, Dr. Carhart said that he was not moved at all by the protest, and even shared with the Gazette that he believes he is “doing God’s work” and that people’s opinions do not bother him.
“Pray to end abortion,” “Adoption the Loving Option,” and “The Butcher of Germantown,” were chants that could be heard on Monday morning near the clinic, but there were no reports of violence or hostile activities. Pro-life demonstrators laid down 720 crosses on the ground that represented the amount of babies who have lost their lives from the doctor’s practice.
Three pregnant women who were on their way to the clinic changed their minds, according to the newspaper, and spoke to demonstrators who showed them their other options. There were still those who decided to go into the hospital for the procedure, and the clinic did not allow its patient care service to be disrupted.
The Maryland Coalition for Life was not able to provide a comment at the time of press.
