Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Joined Long Line for the New iPad 3 (VIDEO)

The iPad 3, officially known only as "the new iPad" went on sale at 8 a.m. local time in the U.S. and nine other countries Friday. Thousands of Apple fans— including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak— were lined up all night for the new device.

The third generation of iPad has few changes, but boasts significantly better quality in the changes made. Its high resolution screen and 4G LTE capability had people lined up in Tokyo, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Paris, and of course, Century City, California.

Wozniak was found by reporters waiting on line in Century City, Calif. for the newest iPad, admitting that although he could easily procure one in a simpler way, he preferred to rough it with "real people."

"I'd rather be in there like real people," Wozniak told a WhatsTrending.com reporter. "I wanna be one of the people who line up and wait all night."

Although he said Apple as a company was "not that important to [him]" anymore, as he left the company in 1987, he divulged that he has waited on line for many Apple products in the past, and has kept abreast of their development through technology blogs.

"Getting new stuff in your hands and trying it out … it's the biggest thing in my life," said the co-founder.

Stephen Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer, Co. in 1976 along with Steve Jobs, and contributed significantly to their first computer, the Apple I. Though he left the company in 1987, he owns shares in Apple, bringing his reported wealth above $100 million.

Wozniak wasn't the only one eager to claim the new iPad for his own. The $499 iPad was a big hit at stores across the world, with Apple firmly planting their flag at the top of the tablet market.

"You get clearer movies and clearer games," Dipak Varsani of London told the Associated Press. "I use it as a multimedia device."

Even for those who didn't fully understand the technology, the iPad was too tempting of a buy to ignore.

"I don't think it's worth the price but I guess I'm a victim of society," said Athena May of Paris.

Despite critics and a host of other Android-powered tablets flooding the market, Apple has continued to dominate sales with over $55 million iPads sold since 2010, and nearly 326 million by 2015, according to Reuters.
