The reveal showed that the new mobile OS will feature the long-awaited multi-tasking feature, a split screen feature and many others. This is exciting news for iOS users as they will soon get a taste of features that have long been available to Android users. According to a report in Tech Times, most iPhones, most iPad Airs and iPad minis, but a few iPods will be compatible to receive the upgrade. Naturally, the latest models of the iPhone and the iPad will be the first in line. This includes the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPad Air 2.
The iPhone 5S will also be receiving the upgrade, as well as the iPhone 5C, the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S. Compatible tablets include: the iPad mini first generation, the iPad mini 2 and the iPad mini 3; the iPad 2, the iPad Air first generation, the iPad Air 2, the iPad Air third generation and the iPad Air fourth generation. Among the iPods, only the fifth generation iPod Touch will be compatible with iOS 9.
The first generation iPad, the iPhone 4 and all other iPods are not included. These are the same devices which were not compatible with iOS 8, and therefore could not receive iOS 9.
The upcoming OS is also expected to take up lesser space in the devices, at only 1.3 GB, unlike iOS 8 which was at a whopping 4.6 GB.
Newer devices will carry iOS 9 out of the box and these are likely to be available this July. Older devices, the report said, will likely find the upgrade available by the holiday season.
