The new operating system will be the first to integrate Siri and Apple Pay to desktop Mac computers. The macOS Sierra was first introduced a few months earlier at the Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC 2016).

With Siri in macOS Sierra, Mac owners have the ability to command the voice assistant to do various tasks on their computers, much like how Siri works on iOS devices. According to the official macOS Sierra page on Apple's website, Siri can be commanded to look for specific files. Various schedules and notifications can be seen from the Notification Center as well.

Other features of the macOS Sierra include a Universal Clipboard where copying images, text, files and videos is made easier with just one button. For Mac users with Apple Watch, there is also the Auto Unlock feature that wakes the Mac device whenever the Apple Watch is nearby. The iCloud Drive also makes Mac files accessible on iPhones or on another Mac desktop. Online shopping and paying for items bought through the internet have been made more secure and easier with the Apple Pay feature.

The macOS Sierra update also helps Mac users manage their storage spaces better. Optimized Storage automatically puts files that are rarely accessed by the user to the iCloud. Locating and deleting certain files have been made easier too.

List of macOS Sierra Supported Devices
Ars Technica reports that the macOS Sierra can run on many Mac desktops, but not on those with old hardware from 2007 to 2009. The Sierra OS will run on devices including MacBook (2009 and above), MacBook Pro and MacBook Air (2010 and above), Mac Mini (2010 and above), Mac Pro (2010 and above) and the iMac (2009 and above).

It was also announced that iWork will have an updated version. New features such as allowing collaboration among several users have been included. It is not known when the updated iWork will be released, but it may be near or alongside the macOS Sierra release.
