Apple October 16, 2014 Keynote Speech Event Recap, Review: Apple Pay Info, 5K Retina iMac Among Features
Apple held its eagerly awaited October 2014 Event keynote yesterday, revealing the company's latest products.
The keynote revealed the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2 – as well as other things such as the OS X Yosemite, the 5K Retina iMac, Apple Pay and a whole lot more.
But of course the crowning jewel of the Apple keynote was the announcement of the iPad Air 2, the latest incarnation of one of the best tablets in the market.
Before that, Tim Cook gave a recap of the release of their iPhone 6 a month ago. He boasted how the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were the fastest selling iPhones ever.
"This is our biggest iPhone launch ever," Cook explained as he reviewed the massively successful launch of the next generation iPhones.
Cook then gave more information about Apple Pay which rolls out on Monday.
The Apple Watch also got a bit of an update with WatchKit, a tool for developers that will allow them to create apps for the upcoming Apple Watch. The kit rolls out next month, with the Apple Watch coming some time early in 2015.
The OS X Yosemite was next with its major interface redesigns and updated apps like the new Safari browser, the new upgraded Spotlight feature and the Notifications bar.
Craig Federighi explained how the new OS X Yosemite works with a feature called "Continuity," which brings the iOS and the Mac OS closer together.
The iPad Mini 3 was shown to have a new TouchID sensor, but had no power upgrades and no change in design at all apart from the new Fingerprint ID Scanner.
The iPad Air 2 was given a lot of air time, and Apple boasted how the new device is 18% thinner than the first iPad Air, making it the world's thinnest tablet. It is also less than half as thick as the original iPad.
"It's unbelievably gorgeous. Look how thin it is. Can you even see it?" says Phil Schiller, senior vice president of Apple marketing.
The new set of iPads are available to pre-order immediately.
