Apple TV Update 2013: System to Roll Out Alongside iOS 7 Release

An Apple TV software update will roll out alongside the iOS 7 release.

Apple will release this major software update on Sept. 18 which is the same day the company will launch iOS 7 for the public, according to a new report from AllThingsD.

One of the changes to come with the update includes the allowance of purchased content from the iTunes Store to be played directly on Apple TVs that do not own the content. The current models require users to load the content onto their mobile devices for playback on an Apple TV using AirPlay.

Apple recently made several changes to the system including the addition of new apps for Vevo, The Weather Channel and the Disney Channel. Apple TV currently retails for $99 and can be purchased through the company's online and local retail stores.

The iOS 7 release date is set for Sept. 18, according to announcement made by Apple at its media event earlier today.

The software will be compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad mini, iPad 3, iPad 4, and the iPod Touch 5th-Generation.

Apple first announced iOS 7 at WWDC earlier this year.

The new software will come with many new features along with a completely redesigned layout with fresh fonts and new templates. The newly designed interface will come with flat icons and a 3D effect that will make the wallpaper appear to be some distance behind the icons.

The notification menu will also be updated as users will access it by pulling it down. It can track what activity you are doing such as playing music and provides users with easy access to their settings and the new features called AirPlay and AirDrop.

AirDrop allows Mac users to share content such as pictures and videos with a multiple amount of people using Apple devices in the same vicinity. It is similar to the NFC, except the devices don't need to make physical contact and must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
