Apple v FBI News: Hack-proof iPhone Underway?

Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat etc. on the side of Apple

Is Apple in the process of making a new iPhone that will be foolproof from hacks? If it is, the public will have to thank Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the move.

Speculations that Apple is in the process of making a hack-free phone were sparked by the legal mess both Apple and FBI are currently tangled in. This came after the FBI publicly compelled Apple to hack an iPhone that was recovered from one of the suspected terrorists involved in the San Bernardino mass shooting in December last year.

The demand of the FBI was further strengthened by a court ruling, requiring Apple to assist the bureau in its quest to have the recovered device hacked and retrieve whatever important terrorist information it may contain. As of date, Apple is in the process of reversing the court's decision.

Observers remarked that the FBI's move could have been fueled by its desire to set a precedent on compelling other companies to do the same, should a similar event happen in the future. However, it seems that things are firing back at the FBI now.

Latest reports suggest that Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and other companies are on the side of Apple, at least in this issue. The said companies are supposedly in the process of increasing the security features of their apps. Cases in point are WhatsApp's plan of encrypting its voice calling feature and Facebook's major security upgrade to its Messenger app. There is no denying that FBI's move to bypass device security features have resulted in many companies' desire to protect the users' data more than ever.

While this is good news to the users, it goes without saying that the FBI will have a hard time recovering data from recovered devices in the future, even if vendors can unlock them.
