Apple Watch Pre-Orders Sell Out in 6 Hours, 1 Million Sold Over the Weekend
Apple's new wearable hasn't officially been released in stores yet, and already it has sold out an estimated one million pre-orders over the weekend, with the first Apple Watches shipping out in June.
The new Apple Watch may already be sold out after the wearable hit an approximated one million in pre-orders over the weekend even before its official release in stores. The official release date is slated for April 24.
According to Reuters, Apple Watch pre-order numbers would have gone higher if not for the restricted supply mandated by Apple, pointing toward a solid demand for the wearable despite its limited supply being one of the most significant factors.
While prospective customers and Apple fans were happy to try on the Apple Watch in retail stores, they still had to make their pre-orders online, which did not appear to be a deterrent given the pre-order supplies have already run out.
9to5Mac said pre-orders for all variations of the Apple Watch topped their limit within six hours after the pre-orders opened online early Friday morning. By noon, the Apple Store posted a message informing customers new orders of the Sport variation would next be shipping out in June at the latest, with a number of the stainless steel models to be on hand for delivery within four to eight weeks.
It may still be too early to tell whether the Apple Watch will prove to be as successful as its smartphone and tablet cousins; however, it appears to be off to a promising beginning with its pre-order sellouts.
