Apple Watch software update delayed due to bug
The release of the first major Apple Watch software update has been delayed today after the company discovered a bug in the watchOS 2.
Apple's watchOS 2 was set to be released this morning, but the tech giant chose to delay the release of the Apple Watch software because of a recently discovered flaw. The patch for the bug in the software's development is taking more time than the company expected, but Apple promised to release watchOS 2 "shortly," according to ABC News.
"We have discovered a bug in development of watchOS 2 that is taking a bit longer to fix than we expected," an Apple spokesperson told ABC in an email. "We will not release watchOS 2 today, but will shortly."
Developer James Thomson took to Twitter his speculation on the delay. He said it may have been a FairPlay error that blocks native apps from launching on the watchOS 2. Thomson also said he informed Apple of the error when he found out about it while installing apps on the device, the Telegraph reports.
The iOS 9 update, on the other hand, is not affected by the Apple Watch software bug. A company spokesman confirmed that Apple will release the latest iOS 9 update this morning, the report relays.
Smartwatch fans are attracted to the watchOS 2's ability to run native apps on the Apple Watch. This feature gives users the benefit of being able to use the Apple Watch faster and access more functions.
During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple showcased other new features in the watchOS 2, including photo faces, lapses of city views, plus flashing of a different image each time the user looks at the watch. The nightstand mode also enables one to use a charging Apple Watch as an alarm clock, the report details.
The Apple Watch software update also added the time travel feature that lets users see their past and future schedules by turning the clock crown forward or backward. In addition, they can use Siri to activate workout monitoring with just a voice command, allowing them to skip touching the device.
The final release date of the watchOS 2 is yet to be announced by Apple.
