April Fool's Day News: Virgin America Pranks Clients With 'New' Logo
With various reports claiming that JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, and other companies showing interest to purchase Virgin America, there is a possibility for the airline company to remove the word "virgin" written on its tails. On the contrary, the company's release of its supposed new logo should not be taken seriously as, apparently, it was only an April Fools' Day prank.
The airline sent an email to its loyal customers last Thursday, informing them of the company's new logo and a fare sale. However, the company's prank didn't stop at the email that it also discussed the details of its "new" logo in its corporate blog and claimed that they have reimagined the company's symbol.
The prank involving the company logo is not the first time for the company to come up with an April Fools' Day joke as it has a record of pranking its clients a day ahead of when the custom of pranking is actually done. Last year, the airline company pranked its customers by announcing that it would start a flight to Branson, Missouri, which, in fact, wasn't true at all. Incidentally, Branson is the family name of the person who was instrumental in the launch of the airline in 2007: Sir Richard.
Despite having the record of coming up with an April's Fool day prank every year, many of those who received an email from Virgin America were fooled into thinking that the company was, indeed, having a logo makeover.
Among the many comments online, one of the most common was that the new logo looked like a pair of woman's breasts. This was the same reaction that AirBnb got when it unveiled its new logo, for real, two years ago.
However, when it finally dawned on the netizens that the makeover was nothing more than an April Fools' Day joke, many still could not help but point out that it was nothing short of sexism.
