As for April's actual birth, the Animal Adventure Park Zoo personnel have yet to know when the soon-to-be mother will undergo labor. April was expected to give birth mid-February but up until now, she's already way past her expected due date and the days keep on passing.
Sacramento Zoo's local giraffe expert Melissa McCartney explains why April still has not given birth. "We can attribute the late due date to the fact the giraffe births are different from humans. A giraffe' gestation stage lasts for 13 to 15 months," McCartney said.
It is also hard to determine at what month the giraffe's pregnancy is in as it is quite a task to do ultrasound on such a tall creature.
