April the Giraffe To Give Birth This Weekend

UPDATE: April the giraffe is showing signs of contraction and could give birth on Sunday.

All eyes are on the 15-year-old pregnant giraffe, April, as she awaits the birth of her fourth calf, but some netizens have already begun doubting the authenticity of it all. Is the newest start of internet live streaming really pregnant, or is she just a part of one elaborate April Fools' prank?

April, who was supposed to have already given birth in mid-February, is still awaiting the arrival of her fourth calf at the Animal Adventure Park Zoo in Harpursville, New York. And although the zoo has already assured viewers of the live stream that April is indeed pregnant, some people still can't help but wonder if it's perhaps just a hoax to celebrate the upcoming April Fools' Day. After all, the giraffe's name is also April.

Fans of the April the Giraffe live stream have been searching online for more assurances, and for which the Animal Adventure Park has been giving generously via their official Facebook account. The latest update, which came on Thursday, March 30, stated that April's behavior "is very off from normal demeanor." This change in attitude should be expected. And although it could not be captured in photos, the pregnant giraffe's udders are reportedly full, which they say is a clear indication that "it should not be much longer."

This will be the fifteen-year-old April's fourth calf, while her five-year-old partner, Oliver, will be welcoming his first. A giraffe usually gestates for 15 months on average and gives birth to a calf that will normally weigh around 150 lbs and stand at 6 inches at birth. The front hooves will reportedly come out first subsequently followed by the snout. This will also be the Animal Adventure Park's first giraffe calf.

April can be seen via live stream on YouTube, which promises to show the pregnant giraffe as she gives birth. People who would like to sponsor April, Oliver, and the other giraffes at the Animal Adventure Park can do so via the official April the Giraffe page.
