'Aquaman' Movie News: Should Fans Worry About Zack Snyder's Influence on James Wan's Take on the Film?

DC fans finally got a glimpse of Jason Momoa's Aquaman character as the King of the Atlantis is featured in a cameo in the current blockbuster, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." As Momoa is slated to reprise his role for a bigger exposure on another Zack Snyder movie, "The Justice League: Part 1," Aquaman fans can't help but worry about Snyder's influence on his standalone film albeit that it will be directed by James Wan.

While it is true that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is breaking box-office records, the film does not fall in the good graces of movie critics. Apart from its darker tone, the movie is criticized for having a messed-up storyline. As Snyder will also lend his directorial skills to the upcoming "Justice League" movie and its sequel, it goes without saying that his influence on the DC cinematic universe is difficult to ignore.

This stirs the fear of the fans of other DC superheroes that will have their respective standalone film features, including Aquaman. However, according to James Wan, the director chosen by Warner Bros to helm the standalone film of the King of Atlantis, there is really nothing to worry about.

"Well, I think the story that I would like to tell is still at the end of the day my story. And that's what's cool with Zack, is that he's actually very respectful of that. He's actually helping me out in some ways with certain things that he's doing with his [films] so that I can have better groundwork with the standalone Aquaman story," assured Wan, who also helmed the horror blockbuster "The Conjuring" and "Fast and Furious 7.

As Wan wants the movie to be fun, Aquaman fans can rest assured that it will be almost devoid of the darker tone Snyder is known for via his "Man of Steel" and " Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movies. The influence of Snyder may be there, but, on the whole, it will be reflective of Wan's approach on the character, not that of Snyder.

"Aquaman" is slated for a July 27, 2018 release. Apart from Momoa, actress Amber Heard is also to be featured on the film as Mera, Aquaman's wife and the Queen of the Atlantis.
