Arlene Holmes in San Diego: Colorado Massacre Suspect's Family to Comment
The family relatives of Colorado shooting suspect James Holmes have not yet released comments to the media, but are expected to do so shortly.
Police said the Holmes family's attorney will soon be announcing details about a press conference she is planning for sometime Monday. Police added that they will continue to guard the home at least through then.
San Diego Police Department officers were stationed at both the front and back of Holmes' parents home in Rancho Penasquitos over the weekend. The home was dark Saturday evening, and according to local San Diego news stations, no one was inside.
Media crews remain camped out near the home and anticipate comments from the Holmes family.
When the news broke that Holmes was named as a suspect in the shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado Friday morning, his mother expressed concern that her son was involved in the killing of 12 people and injury of another 58.
"You have the right person," said the California resident, according to ABC News Friday morning. "I need to call the police … I need to fly out to Colorado."
It is unclear what might have motivated Holmes, 24, to break into the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" Friday and open fire on the crowded theater audience. Law enforcement officials and witnesses said that he was dressed in what appeared to be a bullet-proof vest and riot-type mask during the horrific attack.
Colorado news outlets have revealed an aerial video of police cautiously searching Holmes' apartment just miles from the Century Aurora theater, where explosives were located.
During a news conference in Aurora Saturday afternoon, Police Chief Dan Oates explained that specialists are working to understand Holmes' actions.
"The FBI behavioral analysis unit is fully plugged into this investigation," Oates told reporters, according to 10 News in Colorado. "And those folks are very talented at what they do and over the coming weeks and months, they will be working very closely with us to try and figure out what his motivation was."
