'Arrow' season 4 plot news: Ray returns

There was recent news regarding the state of Oliver and Felicity's relationship in season 4 of hit series "Arrow."

The previous season left off with Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, and Felicity Smoak, played by Emily Bett Rickards, pursuing their happily ever after. However, it is expected that they will return to the Starling City at the start of "Arrow" season 4.

Wendy Mericle, the executive producer of the series, shared that the season will see some challenges for the couple in the premiere. According to TV Line, Mericle spoke about Ray Harper, played by Colton Haynes. She explained that he will be returning to the series, despite his presumed death at the end of the last season. With Felicity expected to take on his job as CEO of Palmer Tech, it can be certain that his return will cause some conflict between Felicity and Oliver.

However, she shared that fans do not need to worry about Felicity and Oliver breaking up because of the matter. Mericle stated, "[It will be] a huge emotional reveal, especially for Felicity. It's more of an emotional reaction to the loss of a friend than any sort of romantic rival. She's very happy with Oliver when we come back in Season 4, but [she and Ray] were friends and they left on good terms. It's more just the relief of, 'Oh my gosh, I thought you were gone and now you're not. How exciting is that?'"

It was also reported that the second episode of the season will be titled "The Candidate." The synopsis reads, "When an old family friend, Jessica Danforth (guest star Jeri Ryan), tells Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Thea (Willa Holland) that she is going to run for mayor, both Queens are concerned considering the last three mayors have been murdered."

"Arrow" is expected to return with its fourth season this Oct. 7.
