'Arrow' season 4 Release Date, Plot News: Showrunner teases 'funny' Felicity's return
"Arrow" will return for its fourth season with a pleasant surprise — the return of computer geek Felicity Smoak and her blossoming romance with Oliver Queen.
Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim revealed that Emily Bett Rickards will be back, once again, as Felicity in season 4. The previous season was too dark and bleak for Felicity's funny antics, but her humor will once again shine through in the next installation, according to Cinema Blend.
The fourth season of Arrow will take a lighter path, and Felicity will be the center of that journey. Fans will once again be able to watch her as she grows closer with Stephen Amell's character Oliver Queen. Viewers are drawn to the stark contrast between Felicity's fun charisma and Oliver's brooding presence and have nicknamed their love team "Olicity," the report details.
In season 3, Felicity found herself in a tough spot as she became torn between Oliver and Brandon Routh's character Ray Palmer. She was also struggling with her disagreement with many of the Team Arrow members, Sara Lance's death, and her own personal burdens.
Meanwhile, the fate of Olicity is still unsure, and fans will have to stay tuned to the next season to find out if the two will finally take their mutual attraction to the next level. Guggenheim teased that their "body language" will provide clues to the direction of their relationship, the International Business Times reports.
"Like, when Oliver and Felicity are together at her workstation, now he's got his hand on her shoulder," Guggenheim told TVLine. "It's a difference of degrees. Basically, we're treating them like two co-workers who started dating."
Aside from that, Guggenheim also revealed that Arrow's next season will feature flashback scenes that will tell a "really amazing story," which happened in the past. The showrunner expressed his joy in the new direction of the show. Arrow season 4 will premiere on Oct. 7 on The CW.
