Asbury Theological Seminary Appoints New President
The sixth president of Asbury Theological Seminary, Dr. Jeffrey E. Greenway, has begun his tenure this month. Under the leadership of Greenway, Asbury hopes to continue reinforcing evangelistic ministry to spread the Word around the world.
Our primary mission as an institution will not change, Dr. Greenway explained. We are to prepare and send forth a well-trained, spirit-filled evangelistic ministry to spread scriptural holiness' across the globe. We are first and foremost an academic institution.
Before joining the presidency, Dr. Greenway had been serving as a District Superintendent of the Pittsburgh East District of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1999. Dr. Greenway was also a member of Asbury Seminarys Board of Trustees from 2002-2004.
After receiving his B.A. at Mount Union College, Dr. Greenway received his M.Div. at Asbury Theological Seminary in 1985 and Wesley Theological Seminary in 1999. He was ordained deacon and probationary member of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference in 1984 and ordained elder in 1987. He has had a varied pastoral experience, ranging from a student pastorate during seminary to youth ministry to pastor to his current position of District Superintendent. He has been a delegate to three General Conferences (1996, 2000, 2004), as well as a delegate to the 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 Northeast Jurisdictional Conferences.
Asbury Seminary has a premier place in the world of theological education, explained Dr. Greenway. I am humbled and honored to be entrusted as the custodian of the Seminarys mission. The foundation set in place by Henry Clay Morrison, J.C. McPheeters, Frank Bateman Stanger, David McKenna and Maxie Dunnam is firm, and it is my honor to build upon that foundation and help Asbury move forward into this season with strength and vision.
Dr. Jim Holsinger, chairman of the board of trustees, gave words of praise about Dr. Greenways leadership: Dr. Greenway is a proven, articulate leader. He comes to this position with the full confidence of the Board of Trustees and is well equipped for the role of president of Asbury Seminary.
Dr. Greenways inauguration events are being scheduled for the week of Nov. 11th.
