Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore Divorce: Relationship 'Caught Us By Surprise,' Says Demi
Demi Moore has announced that she is ending her six-year marriage to Ashton Kutcher and said that their relationship “caught us both by surprise.”
After the widespread speculation and media coverage of their relationship, the divorce comes as no surprise to the actors’ fans.
In 2007 during an interview with Vanity Fair, Moore spoke about her relationship to the former “That 70’s Show” star, saying that falling in love “caught us by surprise.”
Married in September 2005, Kutcher, 15 years Moore’s junior, became a stepfather to his wife’s three daughters: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah Belle.
“If somebody would have said, ‘OK, here is the prediction: You’re going to meet a man 25 years old and he’s going to see being with you and having your three kids as a bonus.’ I would have said, ‘Keep dreaming,’” Moore said in the 2007 interview, a year after marrying Kutcher.
“I think it caught us both by surprise,” said the now 49-year-old actress. “Particularly him.”
Moore released a statement to The Associated Press announcing the end of her marriage on Thursday.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain valued and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation.”
Shortly after Moore’s statement, Kutcher posted on Twitter, “I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail.”
Kutcher also unfollowed Moore on Twitter, while Moore still uses the Twitter name @mrskutcher.
