Ashton Kutcher 'Two and a Half Men' Debut Makes Star Nervous
As the premiere of revamped hit sitcom “Two and a Half Men” quickly approaches, the show’s new star Ashton Kutcher has admitted that he is nervous about his debut.
In its ninth season, Kutcher is replacing the show’s original star, Charlie Sheen who played the role of Charlie Harper.
Kutcher will be playing the role of Walden Schmidt, a billionaire Internet entrepreneur who is suffering heartbreak after splitting with his wife.
Recently, Kutcher detailed to TV Guide that he was nervous about attempting to fill the shoes of the infamous Charlie Sheen as well as Charlie Harper.
"Moving into somebody else's house is a scary thing. Who knew what the dynamic would be and how everybody would feel?" he said.
Sheen’s highly publicized melt down caused the show’s station, CBS, to release him from his contract.
While on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” Kutcher talked about watching one of Sheen’s UStream video rants and thinking about how extraordinary his role on “Two and a Half Men” was.
“I was just looking at it going; man that guy had the best job in the world,” he told Letterman.
“I went to dinner with a friend of mine and I mentioned to my friend – man, if they offered me that job I would take it in a heartbeat.”
That friend later clued him in that CBS was interested in taking him on in a replacement role in the show.
Detailing to Letterman that the first three episodes of the show’s ninth season have been filmed, Kutcher stated that his nerves have since calmed and he is enjoying being on a sitcom again.
Kutcher got his big break in 1998 playing Michael Kelso on “That 70’s Show.”
He mentioned that he once heard that acclaimed actor Robin Williams wished to go back to sitcoms after winning the Academy Award for “Good Will Hunting,” and it always kept him wanting to return to television.
“I never forgot that when I was on the 70’s Show because I never forgot what we had. How great and how fun the job was, and how great it is to go to work everyday and make people laugh,” he said.
Kutcher stated that he is looking forward to the season nine premiere of “Two and a Half Men” on September 19.
“I think it’s gonna go through the roof, I’ve been laughing really hard.”
