ASU Death: Victim's Boyfriend Arrested for Brutal Murder of Student

An arrest has been made in the brutal murder of ASU student Rebecca (Becky) Dawn Kasper. Luis Soltero, Kasper's boyfriend, was arrested and now faces one count of first-degree murder.

Police said that Soltero walked into a Tempe Police Department substation, handed an officer his ID card as well as Kasper's driver's license.

"My girlfriend is there and she is dead, and I am not going to tell you anything more without an attorney," Soltero said, according to court papers cited by the Phoenix News Times. He was then taken to the hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning after a suspected suicide attempt.

"I killed her because I had to end her life. I don't know where to go from here. Do I kill again, end it with myself, or become invisible," notes near Kasper's body read. Police believe the notes were written by Soltero after the murder.

"She died on 4-20 not because of drugs but because a sociopath talked and treated her nice. I did not treat her right. She deserved better but never accepted it. So I had to make the choice for her," more notes read.

Kasper was allegedly handcuffed and severely beaten. Police discovered her body in the bathtub, underneath a pile of blankets covered with coffee grounds. She had a plastic bag over her head and suffered from blunt force trauma to the head and face, which made her nearly unrecognizable to her family.

"I don't know how…. as a parent, you live your life for your kids. Anything you do is for your kids and their future. Like lightning out of the sky, we had no idea this was coming," Kasper's father, Dan, told Fox News.

Police were also left stunned by the murder and the fact that there was no apparent warning from Kasper or Soltero that anything was wrong.

"Somebody normal, we can't comprehend that. We don't know what brought him to this point. What we do know is that he did commit this crime and he will have to face the justice system for it," Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley said.
