ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime Release Date: Another Quad-Core Tablet on the Way
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime will not be the only tablet running a quad-core processor in stores in 2012.
HTC plans to release its very own tablet that utilizes the Transformer’s Tegra 3 chip set to launch sometime between February and March of next year.
“The quad-core tablet PC is expected to launch prior to the release of Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system scheduled at the end of the third quarter of 2012, the paper indicated,” wrote DigiTimes referring to an article written by Chinese-language publication, Commercial Times.
The tablet is expected to launch at Mobile World Congress, an event scheduled to take place from Feb. 27 to Mar. 1 in Barcelona, Spain.
The report failed to reveal the operating system that this new HTC tablet will run on, but 9to5 Google assumes Ice Cream Sandwich is the likely candidate.
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime will run ICS when it finally launches.
Another possible system for the HTC tablet could be Windows 8, but it probably will not be ready for the public at that time.
Windows 8 should launch sometime in the second half of 2012.
Nvidia manufactures the Tegra 3 chip that allows devices using it to run on a quad-core processor.
Apple is rumored to be producing its A6 chip that will rival the Tegra 3 also including quad-core capabilities.
But tablets will not be the only devices making the jump to quad-core.
“The article also mentions two new Android-drive smartphones from HTC at Mobile World Congress 2012, one of which will run Tegra 3 silicon,” wrote 9to5 Google referring to the Commercial Times article.
The iPhone 5 is rumored to be including the new A6 chip making it another smartphone to run a quad-core processor.
