Asus ZenFone 2 Android Marshmallow Update Is On Its Way

Taiwanese smartphone company ASUS has revealed which of its flagship devices will be receiving the much-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the near future and the ASUS ZenFone 2 is on top of the list. This was revealed during the company's ZenTalk forum last Monday, November 16, according to a report in Tech Times.

The list includes the ZenFone 2, as well as other variants of the ZenFone 2, such as the pricier ZenFone 2 Deluxe/Special Edition, the ZenFone 2 Laser and the ZenFone 2 Selfie. The only other device on the list that is not a ZenFone is the phablet called the PadFone S.

According to the report, the list is also indicative about the sequence with which the update will be received by those devices on the list. With ZenFone 2 being first on the list, the report speculates that the device with model number ZE550ML and ZE551ML will be the first to get the update, followed by the other devices on the list. The last device to receive the update will be the PadFone S.

For owners of ASUS phones that are not on the list, the report said that this recent announcement confirms that ASUS is prioritizing its flagship devices in terms of OS updating. Devices such as the older ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 will remain with Android Lollipop.

While the list is a welcome piece of information, ASUS was not specific about the time window that they are targeting for the update to be finished and subsequently delivered to phone owners. It was also vague as to what features of Marshmallow will be available with the update.

ASUS, however, told consumers that they will be providing updates on the progress of the Marshmallow update for the ZenFone 2 through their regular ZenTalk forum.

Among the features that smartphone users are looking forward to in the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is its granular app permissions, fingerprint support, and a more improved Google Now.
