Asus ZenFone Max Release Date, Specs News: 5000mAh Battery, Can Serve as Charger for Other Mobiles

Asus has beefed up its line-up of smartphones and tablets again. On Aug. 6, the Asus Chairman Jonney Shih launched the ZenFone Max along with the ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ZenFone 2 Laser, ZenFone Selfie, ZenPad 7.0 and ZenPad 8.0.

The interesting addition among the lot of new devices the company revealed is the ZenFone Max, which packs a powerful battery with 5,000 mAh capacity. It is the first smartphone of its size to sport such a big battery.

Under the hood, the new device is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, running at 1.2 GHz, coupled with 2 GB of RAM. It will come in 8 GB and 16 GB internal storage variants, with microSD for expandable memory.

It is equipped with a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with 1280 by 720 resolution, with 267 pixels per inch. The screen is made with the very durable Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and will have a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

According to the press release that was released during the launch, "The highlight of the new ZenFone Max (ZC550KL) is its incredibly-long-lasting high-capacity 5000 mAh lithium-polymer battery that gives users an unprecedented amount of mobile freedom."

The 5,000 mAh battery is definitely a first among available smartphones and phablets in the market. The Galaxy Note 4 is among the highest, with a 3,220 mAh battery, which is however still a far cry from 5,000 mAh. The ZenFone Max's battery not only makes it last longer for calls, taking photos and videos, and using it as a multimedia device, it also makes it possible for the phone to become a handy secondary charger for other smartphones.

The ZenFone Max will be available starting October, but only India has been confirmed so far. Asus still has to announce which regions these new devices will be available.
