Atlanta Hawks NBA Trade Rumors: Hawks Has Jose Calderon on Their Radar

In a blink of an eye, Jose Calderon's time with the Golden State Warriors was over. But fans shouldn't feel sorry for him because he's going to receive $415,000 during his two-hour stay with the team. They even printed his jersey. Maybe the Warriors should also give him a ring if they win the title. All kidding aside, Calderon should find a new home in no time and a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference is already considering adding him to their roster.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Atlanta Hawks are looking to add another point guard to play behind Dennis Schröder and Malcolm Delaney, and Calderon happens to be one of the players they are interested in.

Adding another guard makes sense for the Hawks. Delaney is a decent backup point guard, but he's not much of a ball distributor and he doesn't shoot well either. This season, Delaney is shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 24.7 percent beyond the three-point line, and he's also averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 assists in just under 18 minutes per game. Those are not efficient numbers. Not at all.

On the other hand, Calderon has always been an efficient player on the offensive end. He will never be a good defender and he's not as athletic as some of the other free agent point guards like Jordan Farmar and Mario Chalmers. However, his offensive skills more than make up for his weaknesses on the defensive end of the court, and his high basketball IQ is a huge plus. If the Hawks sign him, they will get a savvy point guard who can run their offense efficiently when Schröder is on the bench.

Delaney has the potential to develop into a solid point guard, but right now, the Hawks need to get someone who can produce consistently if they want to make some noise in the playoffs.

Calderon is already 35, but he may be the player the Hawks need.
