Atlanta Hawks Wing DeAndre' Bembry Out for Four to Six Weeks, May Miss Start of Season

DeAndre' Bembry had a rough rookie season with the Atlanta Hawks, but he's expected to get more chances to play this season since they are clearly in rebuilding mode after Paul Millsap, Dwight Howard (traded) and Tim Hardaway Jr. left earlier this summer.

Unfortunately, the second-year wing may have to start the season on the sidelines because he's going to be out for four to six weeks with a strained right triceps.

"The injury was revealed by an MRI exam at Emory Orthopaedics and Spine Center on Friday. Bembry has been working at the Hawks' facilities during much of the offseason. He will be held out of basketball activities during the down time, which will include the start of training camp later this month and possibly the start of the regular season. A six-week absence means Bembry would return date Oct. 25," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore said in his report.

"According to a person familiar with the situation, the injury to Bembry's tricep occurred "recently" and there are no long-term implications," he added.

Bembry would have wanted to start the season strong after a dismal rookie campaign. In 38 games last season, he only averaged 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game.

However, Bembry played great at the Las Vegas Summer League in July. In four games, he averaged 17 points, 3.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals in 26.3 minutes per game. While those numbers are great, fans will have to remember that he did that at Summer League where the competition isn't quite on the league level so he still has a lot to prove.

Bembry is ready to silence his critics and prove that he belongs in the league, but he will have to fight for minutes at the wing positions next season since the Hawks also have Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince and Marco Belinelli on the roster.
