'Attack on Titan' Season 2 Release Date Rumors: Series May Not Return Until 2016

It appears that the wait for the arrival of the second season of the hit post-apocalyptic anime series "Attack on Titan" needs to be prolonged as recent news indicate that the show won't return until 2016.

IDigital Times reported that right after the first "Attack on Titan" movie was opened in Japan, the cast and crew proceeded to discuss the release date of AOT Season 2 in a panel.

As revealed by actors Yuki Kaji (Eren), Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa), Marina Inoue (Armin), as well as director Tetsuro Araki, "Attack on Titan" main anime series Season 2 will be released in 2016. They also stated that production for the second chapter started in October.

During the panel discussion, it was also found out that a second anime compilation titled "Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom" will arrive in theaters on June 27, 2015.

A hoax report previously claimed that AOT Season 2 would return on July 26, 2015. To clarify the issue, Wit Studios stepped out to say that the "Attack on Titan" anime series production is currently on hold to give way for the completion of Volume 14 and Volume 15 of the AOT manga series.

CrunchyRoll reported that by the time the TV adaptation resumes its airing date, Hajime Isayama's hit manga will be at around volume 20 by then.

On related news, ComicBook.com reported that Universal Studios Japan has released a teaser for the upcoming "Attack on Titan: The Real Exhibit."

The said exhibit will be part of the Universal Cool Japan event which will also feature other Japanese entertainment franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

In the AOT: The Real exhibit, Isayama's popular character will come to life as it will showcase the fiction's characters like the 49-foot tall statue of the Titan Eren battling against a 46-foot Female Titan.

The display will run from Jan. 23 to May 10 of 2015.
