Author Regina Brett Believes We Can All 'Be the Miracle'

Regina Brett, a New York Times bestselling author for her book, God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life's Little Detours, has just released another book, Be the Miracle: 50 Lessons for Making the Impossible Possible and is using her stories to inspire and empower readers all across the world to make a difference in someone's life.

Brett is a columnist and radio personality in addition to her work as a book author. Brett told The Christian Post the main difference between writing a book and column is the personal investment.

"When you write a book you are asking someone to make an investment in their time and money. A column can come and go as the weeks pass, but a book needs to be timeless," she said.

Brett feels the book is important because "so many people feel they need a miracle, and each of us can be that miracle to someone else," she said to CP.

With the main theme of the book focusing on becoming the change in someone else's life in order to get yourself in the right state of mind, the realness of the stories and their impact on those involved is evident.

"People just need that," she said, referring to even the smallest good deed done for a neighbor.

Brett also admitted her own spiritual and inner growth while compiling the stories for the book.

"We are all on a journey of faith, and we have to polish that faith," she said. "As I wrote those stories they made me realize how I need to grow in my own faith."

She also stated how people should look at their job as a ministry, and use every opportunity possible to help someone or encourage them throughout their day. Using this attitude she believes it will help the actual person grow too.

Her own spirituality and belief in God played a huge role in this book as well. Brett discussed how getting diagnosed with breast cancer at 41-years-old made her reliant on God.

"God is a walking part of the journey, and I didn't know how God wanted me to use it," she told CP.

Brett said as bad as the cancer was, she was going to be that much of a blessing back and through that attitude combined with prayer helped her to get better.

Lesson 4 in the book, Magnify the Good stands out the most to Brett. The chapter is about a man named Larry who writes resumes for homeless people. The job seems a drag and lowly, but this small task means so much to someone who is living through a hard life.

"Larry tries to see these people as God sees them. We all have that power to have a soul that magnifies God," she said.

Brett said the responses for the book have been great so far. The most memorable of responses came at a book signing. She said a woman who was having family issues with her sisters bought each of them a copy of the book and had them read the lesson, Make Amends.

After reading the chapter they all got together and worked out their problems, and are together now.

As far as what is to be expected next, Brett said she has ideas of writing a book about miracle stories and her battle with cancer and recovery.

She would also like to discuss her early pregnancy and what it was like being a young single mother raising a daughter and figuring out the mystery of God's love.

For now, Brett will be continuing her column over at the Plain Dealer as well as her call in radio show on WKSU 89.7 www.wksu.org/regina. Both the show and column deal with inspirational topics that bring hope to the readers and listeners.
