'Avatar' Sequels News: Film Budget Expected To Reach $1 Billion
The next installments of James Cameron's masterpiece "Avatar" could be considered as "the most expensive movies of all time," 21st Century Fox executive chairman Lachlan Murdoch stated.
In a conversation with Variety during the inaugural Dealmakers breakfast gathering event in New York, the entertainment studio executive revealed that the upcoming films under the "Avatar" movie franchise are expected to be worth more than $1 billion in development.
The report claimed that Cameron was able to give Murdoch some of the details about the next line of "Avatar" movies by showing him its scripts and storyboards, which made him more excited to see the finished product.
The first sequel from the sci-fi movie is expected to premiere on 2020, but Murdoch's excitement over the return of the fictional world of Pandora on the big screen.
Meanwhile, the game studio released the names of the next generation of actors who were included in the upcoming "Avatar" sequels.
Entertainment Weekly posted the list of names that will portray the role of the young children from the Na'vi tribe as well as the other alien special called the Metkayina that lives on large oceanic atoll reefs. The tribe will be led by Tonowari, portrayed by "Fear the Walking Dead" actor Cliff Curtis.
The new generation of blue-skinned humanoids will be portrayed by young actors Britain Dalton, Filip Geljo, Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Duane Evans Jr. On the other hand, 12-year-old Jack Champion will be portraying the role of a human teenager named Javier "Spider" Socorro who is reportedly born at the Hell's Gate military complex.
Film producer Jon Landau explained that the young actors who will be introduced in "Avatar 2" will bring the biggest focus shift in the upcoming sequel.
"We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film," Landau stated. "They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role — not just in this movie but throughout all the movies."
"Avatar 2" is expected to be released on December 18, 2020, then it will be followed by "Avatar 3" on Dec. 17, 2021. The "Avatar 4" is scheduled to come out on Dec. 20, 2024, while the final film called "Avatar 5" is expected to premiere on Dec. 19, 2025.
