'Avengers' Trailer Disappoints Online Audiences (VIDEO)

The trailer for Marvel’s “The Avengers” hit the Web with full force Tuesday, and many viewers were left disappointed.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Runner and Chris Evans, the action-thriller unites Marvel’s superheroes in order to save the world from annihilation. Downey, who starred in “Iron Man,” plays the role again, while Evans plays the part of Captain America. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and others join forces under S.H.I.E.L.D. to protect against Thor’s evil brother, Loki.

The trailer starts with a scene of a crowded city street being bombed as people scramble for their lives. Samuel L. Jackson fills the role of Nick Fury, who assembles the team of superheroes.

“There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so that when we needed them they could fight the battles that we never could,” says Fury while rallying the team.

“The Avengers” trailer also reveals a preview of the quick humor delivered by Iron Man. Chris Evans’ character, Captain America, asks Iron Man, “Big man in a suit of armor. Take that away – what are you?”

“Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist,” quips Downey’s character.

Viewers of the trailer have taken to Twitter to voice their reactions and expectations of the Joss Whedon-directed film.

Twitter user Viada wrote, “I’m sorry, Joss Whedon, but I’m just not excited about The Avengers. But I’m probably not your audience anyway.”

“The ‘But we can avenge it’ line from The Avengers trailer ISN’T nearly as bad as the war machine line from Iron Man 2. But it’s still dumb,” wrote Dee.

Alex wrote, “Disappointed every time I see someone raving about The Avengers.”

Not every viewer was disappointed in the trailer though, such as DJ: “Wow!! The Avengers trailer is here! It looks pretty beast, can’t wait to see it.”

“The Avengers” is scheduled to hit theaters May 4, 2012.
