'Awkward' Season 5 Episode 9 Spoilers and Episode 8 Recap: Will Matty and Jenna Tell Each Other the Truth?
In the upcoming episode of "Awkward" entitled "Say No to the Dress," the official synopsis reads, "Jenna must overcome many obstacles in order to have a dream prom." In a promo for the episode, it seems that Jenna wants to have the perfect prom even if she accidentally spilled wine on her perfect prom dress. Jenna also wants Matty to want her again and yet he has gone to prom with someone else namely Gabby.
In another promo for the episode, Matty and Gabby are in a limo. Gabby wants to take Matty back to prom, but he does not want to. It is then that Gabby realizes that he is still in love with Jenna and she says that he has to tell her how he feels or else he will become the saddest prom king ever.
In the previous episode, it began with someone who had asked Cole to the prom. Unfortunately, Cole botched it when he talked about how lame prom was with Theo who just happened to be there. Cole fixed it when he asked the guy to prom with a latte.

Jake asked Gabby to prom by serenading her in the library with a song that he wrote. He was super confident and she was super happy and overjoyed. After Jake serenaded Gabby, he then told her that he was going to take a gap year after high school and before college. Gabby was surprised and shocked and she told him a few ways he could spend it.
Jake then told her that he already had a plan. He told her that was going to live with his mom and his sister and that he will make a living by waiting tables. Gabby thought that it was an embarrassing plan for him.
Sergio was fed up with Sadie. He did not like the fact that she always made things about her all the time and that there was always something with her. He ended things with Sadie once and for all.
Jenna tried to avoid Matty. However, Lyssa paired Jenna and Matty for the practice run and they were forced to slow dance. Matty believed that Jenna hated him, but in fact it was the exact opposite.
"Awkward" airs every Monday.
