'Awkward' season 5 news, cast, spoilers: 'Jenna in Wonderland' will include a reversal of roles for Jenna and Matty

Five seasons in and the impossible seems to have finally happened for Jenna (Ashley Rickards). In episode 3, many witnessed how Jenna finally became popular, not in the way that she was talked about before but actually popularly liked and wanted.

After Jenna accidentally caused a school blackout in the previous episode, everyone started to regard her as a hero. According to the episode review by TV Fanatic, aside from Jenna, one of the people who has the hardest time adjusting to her newfound popular status is Matty (Beau Mirchoff). Matty has always been a star jock; however, due to many circumstances over time, it doesn't seem like he was able to maintain his position in the school society. Matty is becoming invisible and irrelevant, and he doesn't seem to be dealing with this gracefully.

Furthermore, it also feels that his insecurity might be hindering him from further reconciling with Jenna. Viewers saw how he looked unhappy among the geeks, and even when receiving a text from Jenna was the only thing that made Matty light up, he still chose not to reply to her. Whether he feels that the ball is in his court and he has the right to play hard to get, or he is simply hesitating, it doesn't look like those options will be in his favor.

Another couple brewing would more likely be Jake (Brett Davern) and Gaby (Erinn Westbrook). After Jake's careless words about using Gaby for "sex" only, he confronts her with the truth that he was afraid to admit it may be more than just a physical thing. Gaby seems willing to forgive him and this can be the start of a reconciliation that will lead to a more serious relationship later on.

More comedy and drama can be expected from the show as the high school years of Jenna are soon coming to an end. "Awkward" airs on Mondays, 9 p.m. (EST) on MTV.
