'Bachelorette' Finale Spoilers: Desiree Chooses Her Man
Last night saw the dramatic conclusion to the turbulent season of "The Bachelorette." So did Desiree Hartsock end up engaged to the man of her dreams? Or did this season of "The Bachelorette" end with four broken hearts?
After Brooks' exit last week, Desiree was left completely shattered, not even sure if she wanted to continue seeing Drew and Chris. But after a long talk with host Chris Harrison, Desiree decided to move on from Brooks and try to find love with someone who truly loved her.
"I'm not broken," Desiree told Harrison. "My heart might be, but my spirit hasn't been broken… I want to find someone to share my life with. I do, I really do."
Her first date with Drew didn't go so well, and even though he wanted to propose, Desiree stopped him and explained that she just didn't feel the same way.
"I would be so lucky to have you in my life," Desiree said, "but I don't know if I see our futures together, if I can be there 100 percent for you. I don't know. I just feel like maybe there's something missing."
Drew, whose sensitive nature was initially appealing to Desiree, especially during the home visit, was caught off-guard. But, true to form, he handled the rejection like a gentleman and wished Desiree the very best. As Drew left, Desiree prepared for her date with the remaining bachelor, Chris.
"I've never in my life met anyone like Chris," Desiree told the camera. "I just feel so lucky to be that person that is receiving his love, because I've never felt anyone has loved me as much as I have loved them. It's hard because I feel guilty… like, how could I not have loved him from the beginning?"
During their date, Desiree thanked Chris for not giving up on her and expressed her true feelings.
"I feel like I was blindsided by my feelings for Brooks, that I couldn't see that the one thing I always needed was right in front of me. You have been by my side from the very beginning… I thank you every day for never giving up, and you mean the absolute world to me. I love you. I love you so much," Desiree told Chris.
"You make me want to be a better person," Chris replied, "and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I don't want to make decisions for me anymore. I want to make decisions for you, and us, and our lives together. Desiree Hartsock, I want to be your first, and I want to be your last. Will you marry me?"
Desiree happily accepted his ring, and the pair walked off, completely happy and in love. Next week audiences will receive an update on the couple and their plans during the "After the Final Rose" special on ABC.
