'Back to the Future' Car Auctioned for $541,000, Will Help Parkinson's Research (VIDEO)
One of the seven models of the “Back to the Future” car, the DeLorean DMC-12, has been sold at an auction for $541,000, part of which will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
The popular movie trilogy “Back to the Future”, which is now almost two decades old, is remembered by many as one of their favorite childhood movies – for its witty characters, adventurous plot and sci-fi gadgets – not least of all the DeLorean DMC-12 car, which the title characters, Doc Brown and Marty, use to travel in time.
Despite its popularity and being one of the most memorable movie props of its time period, collectors have largely had a hard time trying to get their hands on the car from the Robert Zemeckis film. Although there are replicas worth $30,000, there are only seven original cars that were used in the movie. Now that one of them has been sold for a high bid of $541,000, only two of the original remain, Hemmings.com shared.

Back to the Future Car sold for $541,000Part of the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which was founded in 2000 by the star actor of the film, Michael J. Fox, who developed Parkinson’s disease and has been a prominent advocate in the search for a cure. On the mission statement of the organization’s website, it said that the Foundation is “dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s today.”
