'Bad Boys 3' Release Date, Latest News: Director Joe Carnahan Leaves Film Project

Sony Pictures' third "Bad Boys" movie, titled "Bad Boys for Life," has been in development for quite a long time. Now, the film project is faced with another stumbling block with the departure of its director, Joe Carnahan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, insiders claim the "Bad Boys 3" helmer quit the project due to scheduling conflicts. However, other sources say that Carnahan abandoned the project due to "creative differences."

However, Carnahan himself spoke about his departure from "Bad Boys 3" on Twitter and said, "Scheduling conflicts happen all the time. Frank Grillo & I started [production company] WarParty & we're building our company. There's no other story."

After years of being in development, it was only recently that Will Smith has confirmed that he had committed to appear in the planned third "Bad Boys" movie. A Nov. 8, 2018 release date has also been set recently, with filming eyed to begin this fall.

Carnahan's move is considered to be another setback for the project. Aside from directing the "Bad Boys" sequel, Carnahan also wrote the latest draft of the upcoming movie's script. Because the movie has already been green-lit, the search for a director is reportedly already underway and a new writer may also be tapped to work on the film project.

"Bad Boys 3" seeks to be a film reunion of Smith and Martin Lawrence, who appeared in the first two installments of the film franchise which were directed by MichaelBay and released in 1995 and 2003. The two actors play the role of Miami detectives who take down bad guys but also leave a trail of mayhem in the process.

In addition to his directorial work on movies like "The Grey," "The A-Team," and "Smokin' Aces," Carnahan also worked on TV shows such as "The Blacklist" and "State of Affairs." He wrote the script for the remake of "Death Wish" and the live-action adaptation of the video game "Uncharted." The filmmaker is also attached to direct the English-language remake of the Indonesian movie "The Raid."

"Bad Boys for Life," the third "Bad Boys" movie, is currently slated for release on Nov. 8, 2018.
