Bangkok Flood Latest News: Thousands Flee as Water Overwhelms City (PHOTOS)
Thousands of Bangkok residents are fleeing the Thai capital Thursday after authorities called an emergency five-day holiday to allow residents to relocate.
Bangkok's Governor Sukhumbahand Paribatra issued an evacuation alert for residents in the north of the capital in the districts of Don Muang, Bang Phlad and Thawi Wattani.
"This is the first time I am using the term 'evacuation', the first time I'm really asking you to leave," Mr Sukhumbhand said, according to BBC.
According to AFP, flood waters were seeping into central parts of Bangkok in the morning and is expected to combine with seasonal high tides to flood more parts of the capital.
The flooding has been caused by unusually heavy seasonal rains since July, killing more than 300 people and affecting about one third of all provinces in the country.
