Barbara Bush Discharged From Hospital

Barbara Bush was released from Houston Methodist Hospital on Saturday, a family spokesperson has said.

The former first lady was checked into the facility for a "respiratory related" issue on New Year's Eve, and the condition was later confirmed as pneumonia.

"I cannot thank the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist enough for making sure I got the best treatment and got back to George and our dogs as quickly as possible," Bush said, according to CNN.

Bush is the wife of the 41st President of the U.S., George H. W. Bush. She is also the mother of the 43rd president, George W. Bush.

President George H. W. Bush's office provided updates over the course of Barbara's six-day hospitalization, including her "great spirits."

"She is in great spirits, has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care," the statement read.

Then, on New Years' Day, family spokesperson Jim McGrath said there was "nothing new to report."

"The message Bush has told friends and family is not to make a fuss over her," he continued. "She and Mr. Bush spent New Years Eve watching the Aggies bowl game on TV."

Meanwhile, President Obama and former president Bill Clinton had both wished Bush well during her hospitalization.

"Michelle and I send our best wishes to Mrs. Bush for a speedy recovery," Obama said in a statement released while he vacations with his family in Hawaii, according to Politico.

"Barbara is so blessed to have both a loving, supportive family by her side and a vibrant spirit that we hope will have her feeling better soon," Obama added. "I know I speak for Americans everywhere when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and her family on this New Year's Day."

Alternately, former President Clinton mentioned Bush's favorite football team.

"I'll be rooting for Barbara Bush's full recovery while she's rooting for Baylor today," Clinton posted to Twitter. "All my best to her and @GeorgeHWBush."

Baylor played the University of Central Florida in the Fiesta Bowl on Wednesday night.
