'Basketball Wives' Canceled After 2 Seasons?
"Basketball Wives L.A" has reportedly been canceled by the Vh1 network after just two seasons following an alleged ratings decline.
Various blogs claimed the hit reality TV show, which is produced by reality star Shaunie O'Neal, had been canceled Friday due to an alleged slump in ratings. In 2012, O'Neal alluded to making changes in a bid to improve the show in season three, but the show has reportedly since been scrapped altogether.
"There will NOT be a Season 3," a source reportedly told MediaTakeOut.com.
Fans took to social networking site Twitter to weigh in on the rumored cancellation, where they had mixed reactions.
"I'm so glad that trashy show is done! It does nothing for our youth and only promotes violence #bbwla," Shanice tweeted.
"No more Basketball wives! I'm sick, I loved watching Draya and Laura! Jackie was so entertaining too. Nooo," Trisha tweeted.
"It was only a matter of time. Seriously the show is such a bad reflection of minority women. On the other hand I loved watching it lol," Chris tweeted.
According to reports, "BBWLA," which returned to Vh1 for a second season in September, suffered a drastic decline in viewership by its fifth episode. The show reportedly attracted just 1.8 million viewers during it's Sept. 10 premiere episode, and this figure plummeted to just 1.2 million by episode five, according to Bossip.com.
It was a clear contrast to the Miami show, which previously attracted close to four million viewers during its peak.
In November it was claimed that Malaysia Pargo; season two addition Brooke Bailey along with Gloria and Laura Govan had been axed. Their co-stars Jackie Christie and Draya Michele were expected to return in season three along with potential replacements, but reports now claim that none of the cast will return.
"You know I just heard about it," Gloria previously told TMZ.com regarding the firings. "I kindda had a feeling I guess because the producers and I weren't really on the same page since the get go so its not that this is a surprise to me just the way that they put it out there is a little disappointing more than anything."
Reality TV star Evelyn Lozada confirmed Friday that "Basketball Wives Miami" will be returning to the Vh1 network with season five expected to kick off in August.
