Batman and Superman Movie: Superheroes Fight in 'Man of Steel' Sequel
A Batman and Superman movie, the "Man of Steel" sequel, will be released in 2015, director Zack Snyder revealed Saturday at Comic-Con in San Diego. Instead of a simple team-up, though, the two epic superheroes will most likely be rivals, according to hints dropped during the panel.
Batman and Superman's movie, which is yet untitled and doesn't have a complete script, should begin production in 2014. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as defender of truth, justice and the American way, while Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will return as well. Though Snyder didn't reveal the plot, he did give hints about it when he invited an actor on stage to read a passage from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns"- a dark imagining of the two heroes.
"I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come," "Man of Steel" actor Harry Lennix read. "In all your private moments. In all the years to come, my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you."
A "Man of Steel" sequel was inevitable, with the film raking in $635 million internationally, and the script is being co-written by Snyder and David S. Goyer. Although the Superman movie capitalized largely on the formula of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, the Caped Crusader will be a completely different one than Christian Bale. Batman has not yet been cast, however, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"I'm so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can't wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let's face it, it's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world," Snyder said in a statement.
Snyder hinted at Batman's existence in the first "Man of Steel" movie with the name Wayne Industries inconspicuously placed on a satellite during the film.
"'The 'Dark Knight' films do not exist in the same universe. Zack [Snyder] has gone on record," Goyer told MTV News during the "Man of Steel" premiere. "The fact that we have Wayne Industries on the satellite, Bruce Wayne exists in this universe."
