'Batman: The Animated Series' Being Remastered on Blu-Ray for 2018 Launch
"Batman: The Animated Series," the iconic Batman series, is getting remastered for Blu-ray. Warner Bros. announced the news during this weekend's New York Comic Con, adding that the new release will be out in 2018.
The announcement came about during the afternoon part of Warner Bros. New York Comic Con panel on Sunday, Oct. 8, as a somewhat late celebration of the 25th anniversary of "Batman: The Animated Series."
The iconic 90's cartoon TV series turned 25 last Sep. 5, as Polygon notes. "Batman: The Animated Series" premiered in 1992 on Fox, and has since gone on to air for four seasons until 1995. The series is ranked at number 25 for the top-rated TV shows of all time and has won numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy win in 1993 according to IMDb.
The details are still up in the air for the Blu-ray remaster, however. The panel, which was composed of show co-creator Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett, Tara Strong and Kevin Conroy, don't have the specifics for the release date, other than "later in the year" in 2018.
There's no definite statement from Warner Bros. yet, either, on whether the new release of "Batman: The Animated Series" is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as well as the standard Blu-ray, for one.
Fans are also wondering if Warner Bros. will follow the same format they did for an earlier DVD release of the TV show, which packaged "Batman: The Animated Series" into four separate volumes. All 85 episodes of the show could also come in one boxed set of Blu-rays, too, as Engadget speculates.
This announcement comes on the heels of another Batman release for the Blu-ray, too. Warner Bros. has just released "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm," a feature film that's also part of the story of "Batman: The Animated Series," this summer.
If the quality of that release is anything to go by, this Blu-ray remaster of the iconic 90's cartoon will be loads better than the earlier DVD release.
