'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' News: DCEU's Launching Pad Defeats Box Office Records Set by that of MCU's
Despite having been shredded to pieces by the critics, the DC and Warner Bros. movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" still managed to emerge victorious from its indirect competition with other Marvel movies. As of this writing, the Zack Snyder-directed movie has already broken the box office records set by the first two standalone "Iron Man" film features.
According to Forbes, the first "Iron Man" movie made an impressive $318 million at the American box office while its sequel, "Iron Man 2" delivered $312 million. However, despite the criticisms, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" still managed to pull a victory as it already made $319,483,636 at the American box office as of last weekend.
In a worldwide scale, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has raked in $851,883,636, which is way higher than "Iron Man's" $585,174,222. If compared to "Iron Man 2's" global box-office performance, which is only $623,933,331, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is still the clear winner.

According to Cinema Blend, this new record set of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" for DC is important in its DC Extended Universe (DCEU), especially that the movie serves as a jump point for its newly created DCEU, which is its answer to Marvel's own Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Incidentally, MCU was kick-started by Robert Downey's "Iron Man," which ushered in more Marvel characters into the cinematic world.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Farveau, producer of the first ever "Iron Man" movie, revealed that the pressure for "Iron Man" to be a hit was immense as the fate of other Marvel characters to be introduced in their cinematic incarnations was based on its commercial success.
"There was a lot of pressure because if that first film had failed, the IP was collateral. If we didn't make money, they could have lost the rights to all their characters," Farveau said.
Now that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has broken the record set by its Marvel counterpart in terms of being a launching pad, many are betting that things will only get better for the DCEU. However, fans can only hope that it will learn from the mistakes made by Snyder in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which was heavily criticized for its tone and scattered storyline.
